Nothing important did happen today. Just a Sunday, but a good Sunday. The day has been built of so many of my favourite things and it has felt easy and endless and full. I read a question recently that asked 'what would be your perfect day?', then looking at the things in a day that are important to you, to make you aware of them, and find the time to make them happen, perhaps everyday. When I answered these honestly, really honestly, my list revealed a few things that I knew to be true but that I perhaps hadn't allowed myself to really acknowledge, in doing so there is almost a sense of relief. I need quiet time in my day, time away from the girls and preferably space in the morning to awaken before them to collect my thoughts for the day. Today however did not start in my most desired way what with Amelia snuggling into our bed in the early hours of the morning and using the remaining available time for sleeping to doze whilst scratching my face. I did grab five minutes to stare at my book while Will went to check his fishing net and Amelia ate her breakfast at 6.30am, then it was straight into the day with tales of Noddy and games of Funny Bunny.
Not what I would call a perfect morning but I hid away to drink a cup of coffee (very deserved, and unquestionably needed...), until the girls found me in my work room and asked to paint. I indulged them and pulled out a few art books to show Jesica different styles of painting which inspired me to pull out my paints. I am not completely sure how I managed to actually sit and paint whilst they both painted with no spillages, no bickering, and come away feeling relaxed and enlivened too! No matter how I try and paint land and sea and boats, it is really people I love painting and sketching. Sometimes days or perhaps weeks go by when art does not make my list to make sure it happens in my day, but when it does and I feel inspired to do it, gosh I love it, why can't I remember that?!
The turn in the morning carried on from there. I managed a sneaky bit of yoga. Jessica ran excitedly outside as it hailed to collect some, with Amelia following behind saying she wanted to eat it. So when they each came back inside with a pot of hail I drizzled some honey on top and told them it was a ice cone. I baked while Will worked away at building a rather epic den (see pictures below). Then because of how we are we hastened out for a late afternoon walk. It was only a walk but it was so good! Can it be that the simple things are more of a wonder when life feels good? A walk to see tadpoles and find dead birds is nothing much unless you have your eyes open to it.
Of all the things that happened today, big and little, the best parts were how often I laughed with Will. Simply checking in with him through out the day and really connecting. Being part of a family with so many pulls sometimes it is hard to take time to really connect in a day so I am grateful for every smile we shared today, with our luck x

It started as an off the cuff remark from me of how cool it would be to build a permanent den, one which you could climb on top of. Will leapt at the idea and was ordering wood within the week to build it. I love it, and so do the girls they have been up and down it all day even though it is still incomplete. My favourite part is the use of a driftwood bit of boat I had found last year and had dragged up from the beach, makes the perfect steps to climb up.
I have been on a quest to find healthy(ish) muffins for Jessica's packed lunches and my hasty breakfasts on nursery, i.e. boat, days. These are the leaders at the moment; quinoa and carrot muffins and date and banana. Any suggestions welcomed...
