Yesterday was a very long day. Jessica decided to get up at 2.30am. I was awoken by a little voice calling for mummy so I snuggled her into bed with us, oh and Amelia was in there too by this stage, hoping she would go back to sleep. But no Jessica won't go back to sleep, she rumbled around, giggled at daddy snoring, whispered how she loved me and then declared she was hungry. I could allow her being hungry since she had ended up in bed without any dinner as she had fallen asleep while I was cooking it. Thinking I would take her through for some toast and then snuggle down on the sofa, I was wrong. "Shall we watch the lion king while we eat toast? Yeah? Good idea?" how could I of said no to that little beaming, wide awake face. So at 3am we watched the lion king, well Jessica watched while I sipped coffee in a daze. Turning it off we found River Cottage to be on telling me how to make that to die for almondy filling you find in almond croissants. I am sure there is a fancy name for it but I was too busy memorising the mixture and calculating in my head how long it would take to make and whether that would then be an acceptable time to eat cake since I had been up all night! Oh boy, oh boy was it good. I made pastry while Jessica ate breakfast, then we collected rhubarb from the garden and put together an almond, rhubarb tart that deserved to be eaten at anytime of day. Honestly whizz together 100gs each of butter, sugar and almonds with a couple eggs thrown in and you have some yummy ness. Will was all for coffee and tart to start the day. And you know what despite the tiredness it was an amazing day, just a kids day. Spending those hours in the night just with Jessica was so nice as we very rarely get time to hang out the two of us anymore. Then when Jessica napped midday I got some Amelia time which is always a joy. Not sure if I would like all my days to run on 4hrs sleep though x
