This week has just been a really good week. For our Christmas my Mum gave me and Will a box with envelopes for each week of the year in it. And in each envelope has been something to do or think about for that week. This week was to write three things you were grateful for every night. I am not sure if this was the best week for it or the worst, because every night I have been going to bed with a heart bursting with gratitude and love that it has been hard to pick just three things.
As I said in my last post this past week was half term. What has made this week is that Will took half the week off too. And you know it hasn't been that Will has been here to help with having both girls at home again, which of course does make life easier, it has been having him home to share the enjoyment and getting the chance to watch the girls play with him and hear the laughter. Gosh I haven't heard Jessica laugh like that in ages. I know how lucky we are to have family time like that and that is why I am filled with gratitude.
The day that really made the week was Thursday. We had planned to have our friend Jake around for a pancake breakfast as a late Happy 10th Birthday for him. Then Will with his inner boy (who just spills out..) decided that we needed to try and build a raft down on the flooded cricket pitch, Jake being his excuse to do so. I doubted him. I was so very wrong. You know I am going to be as bold as to steal Will's words and say what we created was a childhood dream come true. You know when you are a kid and you dream of adventures like 'Swallows and Amazons' but it is more in your head than reality, well we made a raft that worked, we made a jetty with a life ring and it looks awesome. And what is most exciting is that this is just the start for us. The girls are still a bit too young to really appreciate it, but watching Jake and his sister just go for it, throw their whole being into kayaking around the pond rescuing whoever and probably fighting pirates (or Jedi's) while they did it, was brilliant and you know I wanted to be right there with them playing too. It feels like we are in a way sowing the seeds in the girls for that love of adventure and the simple things. Gosh we then ended up on the beach that afternoon running around playing, just playing with the girls because that is all that matters really.
I couldn't really tell you what else we have done this week other than just live, but really live. I want to hold to this but I know it will slip, hopefully only for a little while, because I believe life can be fun and it is what you make of it. So we have pitched a tent in our living room, getting the girls used to camping for the adventures to come. Them sleeping there did mean that Will and I had to drag our mattress to the dining room and camp out there and I am not sure if I can be bothered to drag it back through to the bedroom tonight..x
